Culmination of a process started in 2002
This 2023, a process started more than 20 years ago has been completed to provide new and decent housing to the families who lived in the 'Cheap Houses', small homes of about 40 m2 built in the 1920s. In 2002, the modification of the General Metropolitan Plan for the transformation of the neighborhood and in 2003 the agreements were signed with the neighborhood associations that established the conditions of relocation.
The neighborhood's remodeling consists of five phases, four of which have already been completed. The 163 remaining homes come from these four phases already completed and have provided housing to some 600 families neighboring the houses. Of the total surplus, 50 homes are part of the last block under construction of the 4th phase, and there will still be a 5th phase with the construction of four new buildings that will serve to expand the municipal public park.
As for the old cheap houses, two groups of 16 houses will be preserved, the group already inaugurated as a MUHBA museum and the one opposite, in order to also preserve the appearance of the street. Of the second group, its use remains to be decided. The rest must be demolished and the lots they free up will be where the public housing of the 5th phase of remodeling and green areas will be built.
